Opinion : Messi to stay put at Barca

The internet broke last week at the emergence of the news of a burofax sent to the club hierarchy containing Lionel Messi’s intention to leave Barcelona after two decades of his stay at the Catalan club, this caused a wild protest at the club’s office and the fans demanded the prompt resignation of the already unsettled board as a result of various inexplicable transfers and dealings in the club.

Questions began to run on every football fan’s mind on which club will the Argentine represent next season while rumor has it that many European giants are interested in the services of Leo. The club president, Josep Maria Bartomeu however refused to agree with Messi and his Agent cum father , Jorge messi on Messi’s right to leave the club for free at the end of each season claiming the clause ended on June 30th . It was clear that no team can afford to pay the astronomical 700m euros release clause placed on the six time Balon D’or winner due to the financial fair play rule hence the likes of Manchester city were hindered on landing the superstar .

In an interview with Goal, Leo after some weeks long silence talked about the failure of the board on sporting project and his family unwillingness to leave the city when he told them his intention . In his words , Leo labeled the present administration a “disaster” and will never go to court for resolution ;
“The whole family began crying my children did not want to leave Barcelona, nor did they want to change schools.”

“But I looked further afield and I want to compete at the highest level, win titles, compete in the Champions League. You can win or lose in it, because it is very difficult, but you have to compete.”
“The truth is that there is no project at this club. They just plug holes as and when things happen. I would never go for a war against the club of my life. That’s why I’m staying”.

With that been said,it is obvious Lionel Messi will be staying for at least a season more under the new coaching of Ronald Koeman and his assistants but probably without his close friends Suarez and Vidal who are close to joining Juventus and Inter respectively following a squad rejuvenation as a result of the 8-2 humiliation by Bayern Munich in the UEFA champions league .

Do you think Messi’s actions are justified and following the club’s refusal to let him go, do you think Messi will still be committed to the club as he promised?

Let’s have your thoughts guys in the comment section !!!

The Beautiful Game of Passion!

Football (or soccer as the game is called in some parts of the world ) is a sport with a very long history . The round object has been kicked around by players for ages which can be traced to the 19th century . FOOTBALL IS LIFE!

MUSIC: TWICE AS TALL!!!

Burna releases his new album Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu Rex, known professionally as Burna Boy, today released his anticipated studio album to the delight of the awaiting fans who wasted no time in getting the album from all digital platforms making the work to earn a staggering 5 million+ downloads from audiomack only within 30 mins of release.

The Nigerian singer-songwriter’s fifth album is out this Friday (Aug. 14) and features Stormzy and Coldplay’s Chris Martin among the 15-song tracklist. The collection follows last year’s Grammy-nominated African Giant. “Twice As Tall” is executive-produced by Diddy, Bosede Ogulu, and Burna Boy. The record includes recent single Wonderful, while production includes contributions from Nigeria’s Spaceship Collective, Mike Dean, Telz, Timbaland, Jae5, and more.

Since the release, there has been positive response from a list artistes both on the local scene and diaspora such as Jaywon , Diddy, Black coffee and so on despite Burns’s failure to deliver the studio work in July as he promised at first which was also the case with Whizkid and Davido who also reintrated their decision of releasing their respective albums last month .

Mostly recorded in Lagos during lockdown, the record is described in a press release as “a beautiful mélange of sounds… a pure, unapologetic African body of work that boasts of a global contemporary sound that is for everyone.” The intro to the album is a voice of a grown man who was advising his son (Burna) on the perserverance and sacrifice needed to reach the ‘legend’ status . This was served with an animated visual which explains Burna’s meteoric rise into “greatness” and the behind the scenes hardwork which serve as key to his success .

Burna Boy rose to prominence in 2012 after releasing ‘Like to Party’, the lead single from his debut album. He later signed with the US’ Bad Habit/Atlantic Records and Warner Music Group globally. ‘African Giant’ would later amass positive review globally, win the ‘Album of the Year’ at the 2019 AFRIMA, and get nominated for ‘Best World Music Album’ at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards. With the new height of Burna now twice as tall , it is safe to say Africans are now well represented on the music map in the global music scene and the Grammy award won’t be far fetched in the coming years .

Nurses are not sexual objects – Fans blasts Olamide on twitter over explicit video

Nigeria’s Ace rapper /singer Olamide Adedeji popularly known as Olamide badoo has been lambasted on twitter by several Nigerians following the release of the visuals to his mega hit song ‘wonma” due to the usage of nurses in a sexually explicit way in the video .

Wonma , which was a single off Olamide’s 999 Ep released earlier this year was all about some ladies engaging in promiscuous activities despite getting all they wanted from their partner(s) with notable lyrics which was delivered in local Yoruba language such as “you can’t satisfy a promiscuous woman , she will fornicate”.
Twitter users especially nurses used the social media to drive home their points by using the hashtag ”

#nursesarenotsexualobjects” demanding the taking down of the video and public apology from the Eni Duro crooner. This was followed by lots of comments by the disgruntled persons who are quick to recall that Olamide and another music star” Whizkid” had used the nurses in a sexual scene in OMO TOH SHAN video some years back hence fuelling the backlash despite some Olamide’s faithfuls attempt to defend the rapper by calling the video a mere parody and entertainment attempt with no detrimental aim towards the Nursing profession.

The video was however taken down by Olamide earlier this morning on his Instagram page where it was initially uploaded with the reason not far fetched but no statement has been made by the music star as at the time of writing this story .
